I have to WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE in my Cisco 6006 platform. The active Supervisor Engine with MSFC1(session 15) resides in slot 1 and second standby supervisor with MSFC1 (session 16) resides in slot 2.

Mod Port Model Serial # Versions

--- ---- ------------------- ----------- --------------------------------------

1 2 WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE SAD05010MJ2 Hw : 7.0

Fw : 5.3(1)

Fw1: 5.4(2)

Sw : 6.3(7)

Sw1: 6.3(7)

WS-F6K-PFC SAD05020260 Hw : 1.1

2 2 WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE SAD03426943 Hw : 3.3

Fw : 5.3(1)

Fw1: 5.4(2)

Sw : 6.3(7)

Sw1: 6.3(7)

WS-F6K-PFC SAD0418017N Hw : 1.1

5 1 WS-F6K-MSFC SAD05010K5H Hw : 1.4

Fw : 12.1(8b)E13

Sw : 12.1(8b)E13

16 1 WS-F6K-MSFC SAD04240N81 Hw : 2.0

Fw : 12.1(1)E2,

Sw : 12.1(1)E2,

The meaning was, I wanted to make Redundancy in (Single Router mode) between to supervisor Engines (L2 + L3). For upgrade Image software on MSFC (Standby) I deleted the existence image from Bootflash. Now the MSFC (session 16) is booted in "Router(boot)#" mode.

Router(boot)#dir

Directory of bootflash:/

1 -rw- 1627032 Jan 01 2000 01:19:56 c6msfc-boot-mz.121-1.E2

2 -rw- 184226 Apr 15 2004 15:24:58 crashinfo_20040415-132458.

Than I attempt to copy new image from sup-slot0 (Flash Card) with this command "Router(boot)#copy sup-slot0:c6msfc-dsv-mz.121-8b.E13 bootflash:". So it comes the big question, why I get this error message? " %Error opening sup-slot0:c6msfc-dsv-mz.121-8b.E13.bin (No such file or directory) ". I just want to upgrade the image software on MSFC on standby Supervisor. What am I doing wrong?, Please help

Best Regards

Hi Shahryar,

Please paste the output from dir slot0:. Please let me know where is the PCMCIS card plugged in i.e on which sup.

AFAIK, you wont be able to copy the image from the active sup's slot0 to the Standby sup's MSFC in 2nd slot i.e slot16.

Also, the PCMCIA slot in standy sup is not active and you cannot copy the IOS from that too.

Have you tried TFTPing the file to the MSFC bootflash. ttry that, it should work.

Also, correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Amit,

I have tryed to place PCMCIA card in both slot0 in active and standby supervisor. But it did'nt work.I can not access slot0 on (standby).I have tryed to insert PCMCIA card both in slot0 in active supervisor and standby supervisor (slot0) when i used command "copy sup-slot0:file name bootflash:file name". And last, how can I transfer a image from tftp to bootflash (MSFC on standby)?

Tanks for your reply.

Shahryar

Sharyar,

Your cat 6K is in hybrid mode as we are talking about the SRM. Try the following command to copy the image to the MSFC copy slot0: bootflash:. I think it should work.

First connect your TFTP server to the Switch. Assign an IP address to the vlan interface where you have the TFTP server connected. Try ping first and if that goes then, use the copy tftp bootflash: command and it should work.

Please try that and let me know.

Hi igen,

As I told above, I have tryed to copy image to the MSFC (on standby supervisor) with following command copy slot0: bootflash: As you said before slot0 on standby SUP is not active. Maybe you mean that I shall move standby SUP to slot 1 first and maket it active, othervise either slot0 and tftp vil work as it is now.

Shahryar

What are the options you are getting in (boot)# when you type copy XXXXX

From MSFC you can not access Slot 0:.

For that you have to go to L-2.

Regards,

Hi,

I use the following commands, Router(boot)#copy sup-slot0:c6msfc-dsv-mz.121-8b.E13 bootflash:". than I get this error message? " %Error opening sup-slot0:c6msfc-dsv-mz.121-8b.E13.bin (No such file or directory). The flash card is inserted in slot0 on standby supervisor.

Shahryar

Hello Shahryar,

Why you have deleted the image from MSFC as its by default having redaundency in both supervisor.

If you want to convert the CATOS to IOS to utilize its layer2+layer3 features then first you have to convert it from CATOS to IOS. then perform the upgrade.....

System Software Conversion from CatOS to Cisco IOS for Catalyst 6500/6000 Switches http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_tech_note09186a008015bfa6.shtml

Follow the steps and convert it first...

Please let me know if you need more assitance on this issue.

Regards,

Azmath Khan.

Hi Sharyar,

Azmath is also right, you can go ahead and convert directly to IOS.

AFAIK, you will also able to TFTP the image on SLOT 16 MSFC. Both the MSFC acts as individual router on Cat6K, it nothing has to do with which sup is active or standby.

You can try both the steps, either try TFP or the best option is to directly conver it to IOS, if you have to go to IOS.

Hi Sharyar,

I hope you have deleted the image form one MSFC,If yes. Then no worry just swapped the supervisors and do the convert form CATOS to IOS>.....

I hope this helps you out...let me know if you need more assitance...

REgards,

Azmath Khan.

Hi Azmath,

I deleted becouse in I wanted to configure both SUP to use SRM redundancy mode. In this case both software and hardware has to be identical.

Regards

Shahryar

Wht SRM means....

SRM means single router mode.

Shahryar,

What you need to do is put the flash memory card with the MSFC image into the active supervisor then do your copy sup-slot0: bootflash: command.
