multicast trafic and catalyst 4506/2950

Hi,

we have a ghost multicast server. we have configured the multicast routing on the core 4506. but the response time became very high when the ghost is actived.

I want to know if I must actived igmp or configured some thing in catalyst 2950 SX to resolve problem?

By default, IGMP snooping is globally enabled on the switch. If it is disabled for some reason, the following page should help you in configuring IGMP snooping

Yes, igmp snooping is enabled in catalyst 4506 and 2950 but not enabled in 2924 (or not supported) is this limitation affect the traffic and cause network problem when ghost is active?

If multicast traffic is flooded to all the ports, it can cause network issues.

XLs support CGMP. See if CGMP is disabled on your switch.

How many VLANs do you have? Are you seeing network problems only on XLs or other switches as well?

we have 9 vlan, and when the the ghost is active, the problem is on all switchs , the time of response became 1300ms some time in the core 4506 , and 500ms in other switchs.

this is my solution for Ghost using in one VLAN. But it could be modified to route to other VLANs, I think.

BTW, the latest Ghost version enables unicast communication which I think can be used for 95% of tasks.

Hi

For sure the default gateway of the server is core 4506

Try to add a registry entry on the ghost (windows)

Mtu=576

MaxMtu =1460

Example to determine the MaxMtu

(Ping -f -l 1472, you must change the value to determine the max size you can send, you put it - 28 is the header --> for example Mtu = 1500 => MaxMtu =1472)

Try this utility to configure MTU, you search the registry for Mtu, you add the second line MaxMtu

NB:on all interface of switch (core 4506 & 2950) must be

speed auto & duplex auto

& on the server & PC must be auto

(special if you use IBM )

If already is auto try to configure Mtu if not change to auto & make your test be for you add Mtu to the registry.
