PPP Multilink issues

sra
Level 1
Level 1

Hello everyone,

I am using a 2600 router for a large scale dialout implementation, we dial our customers through a PRI line. We didnt have multilink enabled until recently, and everything was working fine. We enabled ppp multilink on the Dialer interface and now we have one particular connection that is not working anymore. What happens is that we dial, we connect, PPP works fine, we authenticate, the line comes up, all looks ok, we have the MP bundles created. But nothing goes through. If I just disable multilink, then it's working again. The problem is that I dont have access to the other router so I only can guess their config (which should be what we told them tho).

We used the following to activate muiltilink:

ppp multilink

multilink max-links 2

multilink min-links 1

multilink load-threshold 200 either

load-interval 30

We told them to have the following on their router:

ppp multilink

multilink load-threshold 200 either

load-interval 30

Here are some debug sessions with Multilink OFF (when it works) and ON (when it doesnt).

MP OFF:

Any idea what might be the cause ? What could be wrong on the other side ? I have to mention that we use the same dialer to connect to lots of other customers, for which Multilink works fine.

We do need to see the config from the router receiving the call with the same debug that you have on this router.

Now you can have them use "virtual-template" config for multilink. Virtual profiles is the better way to control the multilink connection. Pl. visit following url for that

Check the other side IOS release, I had the same problem with 12.0(5) (I'm not sure this was the release with the bug), anyway ask the other side responsible to change the IOS version

Hope this help...

It will be interesting to see the same debugs on the other end too (debugs on both ends together)....but understand that you do not have control on the remote end router to do that, can we atleast get the config (sh run) for the remote?

Would like to see the difference between the site that does not work & that works. There are some known issues with Fast switching enabled, a quick config/ version check will help.

Thanks, Mak.

The customer is kinda reluctant to give his config away but I will try to push things a bit because this is weird. Will post back here as soon as I have news.

I seem to have the same problem. I'm using EasyIP to call my ISP (who has a Cisco access server) and everything works fine with 1 B channel.

If I configure it for 2, as soon as I get the Connected message, name resolution dies. (www.cisco.com can't be resolved) However, if I punch in the IP address of a site, it works fine.

If for some reason the 2nd B-channel disconnects, name resolution comes back.

Scot, your problem seems different than this. In your case only DNS stops working. Anyway, since you mentioned you are running 12.1 , I hope you are running something after 12.1(3.3) since CSCdr45407 ( cannot ping between routers when both channels are up) was fixed in 12.1(3.3) release. I would suggest to check the IOS in this one too and make sure it has CSCdr45407 integrated.
