Hi all

I'm planning to connect an 800 series router to a SDSL link in Australia and not sure if the 837 ADSL router is compatible with the SDSL or not? Thanks for your answer.

G'day Vincent,

I am not sure the 837 *ADSL* router will be much use in an SDSL environment. AFAIK, the 837 (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps380/ps4874/index.html) has an integrated ADSL broadband WAN port and 4 ethernet ports - no SDSL capabilities.

Have you looked at the Cisco 828 G.SHDSL (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps380/products_data_sheet09186a0080088733.html)? My understanding is that this is the (only) true 800 series Cisco SDSL router.

You could use an 831 if you are after DSL/Cable Modem speeds.

Otherwise I would confirm SDSL with your service provider. I have had experience with a couple of Ozy SPs who say one thing when mean another. Worse still, letting you know of their "special requirements" on the morning of set up...

Cheers,

Josef.

PS - rate if it helps ;-)

Hello vincent,

The cisco 837 adsl router is as its name states an adsl router. For sdsl links you will need a cisco 828 router. this is the only sdsl router available in the 800 series.

Shortly: the 837 is not compatible with sdsl. This is due to the fact that sdsl and adsl are both different standards

Hope this info is usefull to you

kind regards
