WS-X6704-10GE Problem

I have a Catalyst 6509 with supervisor 720-3B and IOS 12.2(17d)SXB10. I have installed a X6704 4 port 10Gb card in slot 1 and powered up the system. The X6704 is recognised but is powered off with a message stating that it is not supported. Using show module the online daig status is unknown and the detals for the card are as follows:

I have tried using alternate IOS levels such as 12.2(18)SXD4 but get the following error messages:

%PM_SCP-SP-1-LCP_FW_ERR: System resetting module 1 to recover from error: Linecard received system exception

%OIR-SP-3-PWRCYCLE: Card in module 1, is being power-cycled Off (Module Reset due to exception or user request)

Can someone please tell me what is wrong and if its the IOS I'm using what level I need to support the card.

Hi,

The WS-X6704-10GE requires one of the following:

– WS-F6700-DFC3BXL (3.30 A@42 V)

– WS-F6700-DFC3B (3.00 A@42 V)

– WS-F6700-DFC3A (3.00 A@42 V)

– WS-X6700-CFC (0.75 A@42 V)

Can you confirm that you meet the above requirements ?

Hi Paul,

The WS-X6704-10GE ships with a WS-X6700-CFC installed unless ordered with WS-F6700-DFC3BXL, WS-F6700-DFC3B, or WS-F6700-DFC3A, so you should be fine there.

Minimum software for the card is 12.2(17a)SX, so you are fine there as well.

Do you have a known good 6704 module that you can try in this switch, or another switch that you could install this linecard in?

I've removed the X6704 and inspected it. I cannot see any daughter card mouned on it, there is only the base card.

I remember reading on the cisco website that if not specified the x6704 comes with the CFC card but I can't find reference to this now. Anyone know where this is stated?

It looks like my supplier has shipped incorrectly.

In answer to your question Bobby, I have installed a XENPAK 10GB-SR module but it makes no difference. I do have another 6509 and another 6704 but I get the same problem.

Looks like I'm going to have to go back to the supplier and query.

Thanks for the update, if there is no daughter card present, then that will certainly be a problem, so hopefully your supplier will rectify it.

you have to install it on a supported slot.

on 6513 only slots above 8 accept it, see below:
