Firewall connection with Switch

Is it necessary that a firewall connect to a switch using a 10/100 Mbps port or we can use any port for the connectivity. Give me reasons.

You can connect to a 10 Mbps port, a 100 Mbps port, or a 10/100 Mbps port. If you have Gbps interface on your firewall you can connect to a Gbps port.

You can specify the speed of the interface in your firewall configuration.

If you have a pix 501 then the inside 4 ports are 100 full only but the outside port is 10/100

The pix 501 inside ports are 10/100, half or full.

It means firewalls does suppourt Gbps. Could you name any model having Gbps port?

hi,

in answer to your question - you can use whatever port you like.

ofcourse if you want to get full performance out of your network use the fastest possible.

ie it wouldn't be very smart to plug a PIX 535 into a 10 Mbit hub! :) but it would still work - just slowely!
