We have problems with Sybase Database for Collection Manager in a SCE2020. The status is:

We restored the Sybase database, but we have problems to access the database from Collection Manager and we can't obtain reports from SCE 2020. Here is the info: Problem Details: The SCA Reporter cannot generate Reports, the CM diagnostics show the following: [root@btl-sce-cm ~]# ~scmscm/setup/alive.sh STATUS OK [root@btl-sce-cm ~]# ~scmscm/scripts/dbfree.sh Name % Data Free % Log Free ---------------------- ----------- ---------- Database 55 99 [root@btl-sce-cm ~]# ~scmscm/scripts/dbtables.sh /home/scmscm/scripts/common.sh: line 43: /root/cm/bin/cm: No such file or directory Executing query ... /home/scmscm/scripts/dbtables.sh: line 83: /root/cm/bin/cm: No such file or directory [root@btl-sce-cm ~]# ~scmscm/setup/monitor/monitor.sh -d -a Test: 01db_up.sh. Hello,
The following error shows up when the command is executed by root user.
[root@btl-sce-cm ~]# ~scmscm/setup/monitor/monitor.sh -d -a
Test: 01db_up.sh. Status: FAIL. Message: DB is not running <<<<<
Can you run the command again with the scmscm user?
Since "Test: 03free_db.sh" returns a correct value, I think your DB is up and running.
The error on the SCA-BB GUI usually shows up if you haven't never applied a policy to the SCE.
When applying a policy, the application checks the "RDR-formatter destination" config on the SCE
then create INI_VALUES table accordingly on the CM DB.
I assume, since you restored the DB the INI_VALUES disappeared.
So, please apply a polcy from GUI to the SCE once then recheck it.
Thanks,
Tomo

I see the DB is Up and can see the Tables from DB
Then Notice this message from the SCA Reporter
“IP of SCE for policy” data is not set
Search in Internet and found:
Check /etc/hosts file on the CM. You should have there line for the cm hostname. Like This:
If you have this and still you have got problems then run 'dbtables.py -a' on the CM and check that you have 'CONF_SE_TZ_OFFSET'. If the CONF_SE_TZ_OFFSET is missing , then you probably forgot to run ~/cm/bin/jselect-sce-tz.sh. Run it and then remove the db in the reporter and add it again. Be sure to both activate the db and also apply.
BR and hope this helps
Guest
So, I set the offset to 1400
[scmscm@btl-sce-cm bin]$ ./jselect-sce-tz.sh --offset=1440
TIME_STAMP| OFFSET_MIN|
------------------------------+------------------------------+
2011-10-27 07:22:37.666| 1440|
Closet the reporter and run again
In the Options now i can see the SCEs inside the Templates, but when I try to run reports, there are blank.
And notice that the folder:
/home/scmscm/cm/adapters
Both, JDBCAdapter and TAAdapter are empty,
What can we do to fix it?
Thanks in Advance!
10-27-2011 11:55 PM
Hi,
It's not a problem that under the JDBCAdapter folder is empty, this is a temporary place
before the data is inserted into the DB. For TAAdapter, there should be "csvfiles" folder and
taadapter.sav. But TAAdapter is responsible for some specific reports only and based on
the output of dbtables.sh you acually have data in the DB. So I assume this is not the main issue.
Which report are you trying to create? Can you share the screen capture which includes the blank
report as well as the report Proterties displayed under the report?
Also can you try some other reports? Or can you set different "Time Boundaries" value?
Thanks,
Tomo

Tomo:
Here are the screen with the reports in blank:
10-28-2011 10:14 AM
Hi,
Thanks for sharing the captures.
Seems Top reports are empty, how about reports under Global Monitoring, say Global
Bandwidth per Service? I'd like to know which report doesn't work and which report work.
Thanks,
Tomo

Tomo:
We are seeing at this time the data on the report. Perhaps the problem was a question of time with the reporter. Right now all is working fine
Thanks for your help, you are a very professional man,

Hi,
Seems the Sybase server crashed by some reason.
But to me the sybase has been recovered from the crash and it's up and running.
What is the current error you're seeing??
You said that you have already rebooted the CM, but can you try following steps again?
+ Restart Sybase (by root)
~scmscm/setup/sybase stop
~scmscm/setup/sybase start
+ Restart CM (by scmscm)
~scmscm/cm/bin/cm restart
Please check the following if the above doesn't help.
dbtables.sh -a (by scmscm user)
Thanks,
Tomo

Tomo:
We tried restart sybase and restart CM, but still is not working.
Actually after the restart the system seems to freeze. It froze for about 3 hours. This time is not the normal time that the system takes to restart the CM.
This is some of the logs.

Hi,
Taking 3 hours to restart is not a normal at all...
Though it is difficult to pinpoint the cause with the partial log, looks like
the issue resides in the budled Sybase.
Although it takes 3 hours to start, your Sybase is up and running?
I think you'd better to go with a TAC case.
Below is typical bundled Sybase issues I can come up with.
+ DB full or DB log area is full
In this case something log messages that indicate the issue should be logged
in /var/log/messages.
For the former one, you can apply the following solution.
https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3485061#3485061
For the latter one, you can truncate the sybase logs.
Stop the CM, then,
~sybase/OCS-15_0/bin/isql -Spqbsyb1 -Usa -Ppcube2001
1> dump transaction apricot with no_log
2> go
1> dump transaction tempdb with no_log
2> go
1> exit
Check if the following messages show up in /var/log/messages.
Attempt by user 1 to dump xact on db apricot with NO_LOG was successful
Attempt by user 1 to dump xact on db tempdb with NO_LOG was successful
+ Reinstall the bundled Sybase
To check if the issue comes from HW, reinstall the budled Sybase.

Tomo

We reinstalled the Sybase database and we are working fine now:
[root@btl-sce-cm sybase]# ~scmscm/setup/alive.sh
STATUS OK
[root@btl-sce-cm sybase]# su scmscm
[scmscm@btl-sce-cm sybase]$ ~scmscm/setup/monitor/monitor.sh -d -a
Test: 01db_up.sh. Status: PASS. Message: db is up
Test: 02cm_up.sh. Status: PASS. Message: CM is running
Test: 03free_db.sh. Status: PASS. Message: 99% free space in data db
Test: 04free_log.sh. Status: PASS. Message: 99% free space in log db
Test: 05cm_persistent_buffers.sh. Status: FAIL. Message: The following directory/ies have more than 500 files in them - JDBCAdapter TAAdapter
My question is why the test of persistent buffers is failing? could be a problem?
Also, we have 95% in disk space:
scmscm@btl-sce-cm sybase]$ df -k
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
149559596 133726052 8236284 95% /
/dev/sda1 101086 20685 75182 22% /boot
none 1036624 0 1036624 0% /dev/shm
Could be a problem a 95% percent for the disk? What can be do to reduce this disk space?
Thanks a lot,
Emilio

Hi Emilio,
Yes, the test fail could be a problem.
That says many RDR files are not processed by CM, and left in the listed directories.
The following commands would show many .rdr files.
ls -la ~scmscm/cm/adapters/CSVAdapter
ls -la ~scmscm/cm/adapters/JDBCAdapter
If everything works fine, the number of file should be very low.
Are your CM and adapters running properly?
Please check this by "ps -ef | grep java", and if it's not working please try restarting
the CM process.
If it couldn't solve the issue, you would need to take a look at the following log files.
/var/log/messages
log files under ~scmscm/cm/logs
Thanks,
Tomo

Thanks Tomo. We reboot the server and we are working fine now with Sybase and CM.
By the other hand, we have problems with some reports using Reporter. All is working fine, all test are PASS when I check the status of database, but some reports can't be generate when i try to create them. the Reporter is SCA Reporte version 3.6.5. Not all the reports are giving this error, just some of them. The showed error is the following:
Why is giving this error? is neccesary to make some configuration to solve it?
Regards,
Emilio

Hi Emilio,
Sorry for my delay.
Which error are you referring to?
Seems the picture doesn't contain any error... Please point me if I overlooked something.
I'm not sure but If some "Top" related reports are not working while others are working,
it could be an issue with TAAdapter, the memory configuration for the adapter would be
first place to check.
BTW, this thread is getting a little long with mixed issues, so would you mind if you created
a new one when you come across another issue?
Thanks!
