Hello,
I have a new ASR 1004 router that can identify the "SPA-10XGE-V2" module and it's interfaces, but the interfaces status are always down!!!
Module Model Operational Status
------------- -------------------- ------------------------
subslot 1/1 SPA-10X1GE-V2 ok
Interface IP-Address OK? Method Status Protocol
GigabitEthernet1/1/0 unassigned YES TFTP down down
GigabitEthernet1/1/1 unassigned YES TFTP down down
GigabitEthernet1/1/2 unassigned YES TFTP down down
GigabitEthernet1/1/3 unassigned YES unset down down
GigabitEthernet1/1/4 unassigned YES unset down down
GigabitEthernet1/1/5 unassigned YES unset down down
GigabitEthernet1/1/6 10.0.0.1 YES manual down down
GigabitEthernet1/1/7 unassigned YES unset down down
GigabitEthernet1/1/8 unassigned YES unset down down
GigabitEthernet1/1/9 unassigned YES unset down down
GigabitEthernet0 unassigned YES manual administratively down down
Loopback0 unassigned YES manual administratively down down
I am using the SFP-GE-T , and the Router can identify it:
*Jul 7 10:15:30.540: %TRANSCEIVER-6-INSERTED: SIP1/1: transceiver module inserted in GigabitEthernet1/1/1
router#sh run int gi1/1/6
Building configuration...
Current configuration : 106 bytes
!
interface GigabitEthernet1/1/6
ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
speed 1000
no negotiation auto
end
and this is the behavior of all interfaces when connecting to any network device, always still down...I hope you can advise guys

LOL :)
Would it be possible for you to reboot the router and try again.

the upgrade has been done finally, after many reload processes.
but the behavior of the interfaces still the same ...

Can you try with GLC-SX-MMD as the PID looks ok to me,
Best Regards,
Bheem

i tried it , no initial check has been done ,just the below message.
*Jul 10 14:37:53.096: %TRANSCEIVER-6-REMOVED: SIP1/1: Transceiver module removed from GigabitEthernet1/1/1
but the problem is that i dont have the multimode cables neither the converter now.
i will try to get it on Saturday, also i will order new SFP-GE-T
with P/N 30-1421-01.
I hope this would be problem, nothing else
thank you Leo & Bheem for your support guys, appreciated.

You are welcome!
Also if you need to order GLC-LH-SMD the PID would be 10-2625-01.
30-1299-03 is for GLC-LH-SM which is not supported on ASR1k.

Bheem

Thank you Bheem for your response,
but I need your advice here; if this didn't work too ( i.e using the suggested SFPs ) , should I go with the RMA process immediately , as it should be a hardware problem with the SPA module itself, or from the prevoius tests you think the SPA is working properly ?
please advise.
Best Regards
Faisal Jafar

I think your SPA is faulty.

Most likely replacing the SFP with correct PID will resolve this issue.
Since ports came up after hard loop SPA is fine.
Let me know how the replacement go on Saturday.

Bheem

Thank you Leo & Bheem for the support,
I will update you with the results once i receive the new SFPs ; as they are now in there way, flying from China to Tripoli :)

Hi faisaljafar,
As Leo pointed out SFP-GE-T is supported on SPA-10X1GE-V2.
Can you please get the following info.
show hw-module subslot all oir
sh hw-module all fpd
sh log
Can you check the part number specified on SFP label? Only supported Copper SFPs on Ethernet SPAs is Methode & part number should be 30-1421-01.
Also can you try command "service unsupported-transceiver" with GLC-LH-SFP and see if port comes up?
Best Regards,
Bheem

Hi Bheem,
thanks for your response, and please find below the needed info:

also note that applying the command " service unsupported-transceiver" nothing comes up, still the same.

Hi Faisaljafar,
Do you have a spare "SPA-10XGE-V2" to test or do you have another ASR1k where you can test "SPA-10XGE-V2" you have.
Also can you do a hard loop test and see if the port comes up. You can do it by connect the transmit port to the receive port.

Hi Bheem,
I believe nowhere in Cisco's public documentation states this information. Is there a way for you to raise a document bug and get this fact included in the SPA data sheet?

Hi Leo,
This was from some internal research in my database from year 2011. I am not sure if it still holds true.
However if these SFP's were not bought from Cisco there is a likelihood that they are not SPF-GE-T.
Simple google search shows the part number 30-1401-02 or 30-1410-02 to be related with GLC-T which is not supported on ASR1k.
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/interfaces_modules/shared_port_adapters/install_upgrade/ASR1000/asr_sip_spa_hw/ASRintro.html
Found your reply on newsgroup below :)
https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/10861936/glc-t
"Errr ... Nexus and ASR are not suppose to support GLC-T."
Just to make sure that the SFPs are fine and there is no interoperability issue with SPA-10XGE-V2, probably a simple test in which two built-in/onboard
ports on ASR1004 can be connected back to back to check if the port comes up with the SFP.
If it comes up, we can conclude that the SFPs are fine and the issue is with the interop settings (Autoneg/duplex/speed/bug)
settings on the router/switch.
Best Regards,
Bheem
