VSOM/VSM Deployment on C3160 Chasis

Greetings,

Has anyone come across documentation for configuring the RAID/Virtual Drives on the UCS C3160 chassis?  We have an out of the box C3160 with no RAID or drive configurations intended for virtual Cisco Video Surveillance Media Servers and a Video Surveillance Operations Manager.

Our goal is to configure the RAID/Virtual Drives so we can install ESX and then deploy the .ova for the VSM/VSOM virtual machines.  So far every deployment guide we've come across begins with ESX configured and ready for .ova deployment.  However, we need the steps prior to ESX install that cover RAID/Virtual Drive configuration.  We've reached out to TAC and our Reps for documentation and they send us the same docs we already have. I’ve searched this forum and others looking for a deployment example on the C3160 chassis.

Our deployment will have multiple VSM virtual machines and a VSOM virtual machine.  Would EACH virtual machine require its own virtual disk?  We want to ensure that we have enough storage space for each VM as our camera environment grows.

Many thanks!

There *may* be some ESX deployment documentation within the VSM roadmap...

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/physical_security/video_surveillance/network/vsm/roadmap/vsm_7_roadmap.html#pgfId-48992

In particular under the;

... VMware section.

I hope this helps get you in the right direction.  Sounds like quite a project!

Hi,

You can also have external SAN storage as well to connected to your VM as a HDD.  You need to have sufficient amount of space for those SAN partitions in order to accommodate your future requirements as well.

If you having any issues still, please feel free to open TAC case with us. We'll happy you to assist on this.

Thanks,
