New RV320 "Connected (Inactive)" Need some help/advice!

Hello,

I just purchased and received a new RV320 and it's having some really odd issues.  We only have a single WAN connection which is actually just an ethernet handoff from our provider on metro ethernet and I have a single IP address with a gateway.  On any other device this works great - all internet traffic flows out just fine.

The RV320, however, did this odd thing where it was passing traffic just fine and then after about 15 minutes or so it would say "Connected (Inactive)" and I could not pass traffic.

I am not using dual wan ports and don't plan to unless this is an absolute requirement of the device?  My connection is definitely not complex, it's actually really super simple so I wonder why it would keep going "inactive".

Is this because it is trying to use both WAN ports and can't? Is there a way to just shutdown or turn off the second WAN/DMZ port? If so, I didn't see it anywhere - - unless you can ssh into the device and do it there.

If I do decide to use both WAN ports to solve this issue, I can get a second IP address from my provider and a second port but it will be an IP in the same range as my current one and I'm not sure if the RV320 in Gateway mode will accept that or not?

Thanks for any help as I really was hoping this would work right out of the box!

Single WAN connection.  ISP to Motorola SB6120 to WAN1, no connection on WAN2.  THerefore WAN2 was unncessary.  Now the only remaining problem is the issue posted about HTTP and HTTPS port forwarding re-routing ALL traffic (both internal AND external) to the address provided.  I was able to work around for now by using PAT, but WSE now reports that my router configuration is not correct.

Thanks for your interest,

I had the same thing and had to disable router on the modem/router before the RV320:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/4008940#4008940

In my case, the Cisco DPC3825 cable modem was in bridge mode, not router mode.

Thanks Michiel but in my case the RV320 is connected to a 2960g switch that goes directly to our provider.

Hello all,

Shane - did you happen to get a case created?

Chris, Michiel and Robert - if you are experiencing issues, please get a case created so we can get to a resolution much quicker.

Thank you all,

Marc

Hi Marc

I apologize but I have not yet.  I tried to work on this again Saturday but got so frustrated.  I tried getting a second IP address from my local ISP and thought that having both WAN ports active would do the trick but alas, all I got was either port continually switching off due to "connected (inactive)" messages.

This is highly frustrating from a company that's a leader in routing/switching.  My netgear with dual wan ports literally plugs in and works....no issues...no strange messages.  I do not understand why this just does not work when all I'm doing is connecting to a cisco 2960G switch that is my providers equipment but to my knowledge all that does is connect to their network.  There are no modems involved or anything complex.

Hi Shane,

I apologize for this experience. I know it is frustrating.

My team is ready to assist.

Marc

Hello Shane,

Have you tried downgrading the firmware to 1.0.2.3 that is also available for downloading on Cisco.com? If not, can you please try that and let us know the results?

Thanks,

Hi Shane

1.If you want to use single WAN, you can just leave WAN1 unlinked, or go to port management>port setup>check the disable checkbox of WAN2. So that WAN2 port is disabled.

2.what is your WAN1 connection mode? PPPoE or dhcp? By default, the RV320 will ping the default gateway to detect the link. If the ping is failed because gateway block ping or some other reasons, it will show inactive. In this case, you can go to system management>dual WAN>Edit, then unckeck the "Enable Network Service Detection" option.

If possible, please provide us your configuration file and topo for analysis. Thanks.

Zhaoqiang,

Thank you. I wasn't aware there was an option to turn off wan2. Ill look again.

My connection is just a static IP address connected to my provider's Cisco 2960g switch. Perhaps it cannot ping the gateway and thus the issue but im pretty sure the gateway can accept pings. Ill check this as well.

Hi

I also have the "Connected (Inactive)" with the newest firmware.  Bought the RV320 to replace a Netgear FVS336G, but could not get it to work. The 2 Wan would not connect and had the wrong static ip. Had to put the old router back. Spent over an hour with tech support who was very nice pinging and testing but to no avail. It would not connect nor could the tech resovle the issue. Did you have any luck?

Thanks

Hello,

Can you please try downgrading the firmware to 1.0.2.3 and see if that addresses the issue? Please let us know.

Thanks,

Nagaraja

Hi All

So finally had some time to look into the issues with this router and I think I discovered the bug with this router and our network. We use both a cable modem and FIOS, and need the dual wan. As folks who use FIOS knows they require you to use their router to connect to their modem, so therein lies the problem.

For some reason Cisco decided to ship the RV320 setup with 3 VLANs using the adresses 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.3.1 our fios router ip is set to 192.168.2.1

SOLUTION

DELETE the uneeded VLAN subnets 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.3.1 from Setup > Network > Multiple Subnet Table

and  "Connected (Inactive)" will be gone. Just one of those dumb detials that is overlooked when deploying new software.

Hi Indiestrie, Thanks for sharing your experience. This may help others to solve the problem.

The 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.3.1 are the addresses for guest vlan and voice vlan, which are also existed in most Cisco SMB routers and switches. You can delete them if they are not in use.

By default, RV320 will ping the WAN gateway to detect the link active or inactive. If the WAN address is conflicted with local vlan subnet, the ping will fail so it show inactive.

I have had this problem as well HOWEVER the Internet/DMZ port is WAN2 NOT Wan1
