Turn over the router and use console port on the I/O Controller.

Does your 7206 have the IO controller in addition to the G1 board. If so there is a console port on the G1 and a console port on the IO controller. If the console is not working that you are connected to then I suggest trying the other console port.

DEar Rick,
I do not have any I/O controller installed on 7206 other than NPE-G1.
Is there something which I could try with same G1..?

The possibility of a second console port was the obvious and easy source of the problem. If there is not a second console port then we must look for something else.
My next suggestion is to verify that the console cable you are using, the PC port, and the terminal emulator you are using are ok. Can you connect with this PC, port, and terminal emulator to another router and it works ok?
Other questions to investigate would be:
- is this a router that has worked and then stopped working or is it a new router?
- with the console cable connected to the console port when the router boots do you see any output from the console?

If you're not getting any output at all, then either your cable is broken (or wrong wiring) or NPE is broken. Speed mismatch would still give you some garbage output.
When I/O board is installed, boot-time messages will appear on both console ports, however last message will say something like "I/O controller installed, switching console to I/O".
