Hello comunity,
I have an issue with a ASA 5505
we have our mailacconts hosted by our provider, and sends and received mails with POP3 (110) and SMTP (25).
I m opend these ports on my ASA in the global roule.
SW: ASA 8.3(1) ASDM 6.4
To send and receive text and html mails flow very fine! We can recived mails with attachement to .
But we could'nt send mails with attachement.
I found an knowledge base artikel for MS-Outlook.
About the issue and configure more time for an answer from the server. But the problem are again.
i have disabled the esmtp role in the service policy -> inspection default role but its the same as before.
Now i am unable to find a solution for that issue.

If u are able to send email without attactment, what i think so there is nothing that is being blocked in firewall.

You don't understand the issue??
The issue are since we have the ASA in our network.
Before Mails with attachement made no issue and flows very well!!
I think one of the role block the attachements.
But i didn't find witch
Or is it a bug from the ASA Firmware?

Hello Dietmar,
I do understand your issue and I want you to run some commands so we can determine what is going on,
First of all:
cap asp type asp-drop all circular-buffer
Then try to send an email with an attachment.
show cap asp | include x.x.x.x Your Internal IP Address from where you send the email
show logging | include x.x.x.x ( Your Internal IP Address from where you send the email)
Show run Service-policy
I do agree on something 8.3 is a really buggy version BUT before recommending an upgrade let's get this issue resolved,
Regards,
Julio

Hi,
I am not sure if it is a Firmware issue. But i had often Problems with different ASA images. The ASA Image 8.4.(4.1) works really fine.
I would suggest to use this Version.

Thanks for your help

what size are the attachment ?, can you try to send a small file like 10kb and see if you still have to problem... also check the email clients if they are setup to use ssl or not
02-28-2013 11:04 PM
The size of the Attachement i have tested are 8 MB
A 10KB Attachement (for Example a clean Word Dokument) have no Problem.
No the ISP use no SSL!
The Ports what used are 25 and 110.
The Issue are since we have used the Cisco ASA.
Before we have a Fortinet with teh same ports and Configuration and it runs pipi fine.
On the Fortinet we had a Overtention, so it is died!

Hi,
i think it's not an access-list problem.
if you don't need ipv6, try to disable it from int vlan 1 and then issue the command "no fixup protocol smtp 25"
let me know.

Hi,
now i find a solution!
I Flashed the latest Firmware on ASA 9.1 and ADSM 7.0
now the mails with Attachement Flushes !
But as this time I have another issue, I could'nt reach the Firewall form internal network with ADSM on their Ip-Adress.
Ping and tracerout resolve the correct adress..
(Fehlercode: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)
Thanks
