C921 ISR WLAN Compatibility

Hi Community-

I've inherited a bunch of "old" gear from my workplace, and trying to figure out how I can use any of it. I successfully setup a C921 ISR as a router, however despite a lot of research, I can't seem to find any definitive answer as to whether or not I can use this router to configure an Aironet AP I also have.

Thanks in advance!!

Hello @bepstein111,

the router and the AP are 2 totally different and independent devices.

Most APs can run in 2 different modes.
One is the autonomous mode so that the AP runs as a stand-alone device meaning that you connect to the AP via console cable and configure it using the CLI.
The second mode is the light-weight mode where the AP is controlled by a WLC - a wireless lan controller. In that case the configuration of the AP is done on the WLC.

However, a c921 router cannot be used as a WLC which typically is a separte device.

Check this' I think you need to order ISR LTE

Note:- ISR LTE is wireless router it can work with AP as bridge but can not config AP via it.
