Hi,
Can anyone please confirm is Per packet load balancing is supported in the 3560's ?
I am going around in circles, and can't find a definate Y or N answer.
I have a suspicion this CEF feature is only available on routers.

Hello,
Load-balancing should be supported on the 3560:
3560(config)#ip cef load-sharing algorithm ? original Original algorithm tunnel Algorithm for use in tunnel only environments universal Algorithm for use in most environments

Hi,
go to a routed interface or SVI and see if you can issue ip load-sharing per-packet command.
Regards.
Alain.

NB: On a 3750X (12.2(55)SE1) - only ip load-sharing per-destination available on SVI and routed port.
PS:
To original poster, if CEF per-destination flow balancing not "good enough" perhaps Etherchannel?

Hi,
What about the 3560 ? Is it also only permits per destination load-sharing?
Regards.
Alain.

Without trying similar command on actual 3560, don't know for sure, but if a 3750X with relatively recent IOS only supports destination load-sharing, I would suspect 3560 would too.

IP CEF is disabled by default on switches, to enable enter the following command in global configuration mode;

Hi,
The default configuration is CEF enabled on all Layer 3 interfaces
this is taken from the 3560 configuration guide: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3560/software/release/12.2_25_se/configuration/guide/swiprout.html#wp1109701

Alain,
You are correct. CEF is active on 3560 series by default. In fact, to my best knowledge, you can not deactivate the CEF on multilayer switches at all because it is the fundamental way they operate. Deactivating CEF would be similar to deactivating the TCAM.
Best regards,
Peter
