I need to set up a cisco 1720 router with a vwicmft-e1-d1 to support data only on an E1 line. Where can I find documentation to help me in this setup

It's actually quite easy.
controller e1
channel-group 1 timeslots 1-30 (that assumes you have a full E1).
after this a new interface will appear and you configure as any serial interface.
