Cisco 819-4G SIM Connectivity Issues

FredHopkins_

We have a Cisco 819-4G Router which is used for downloading content to screens on a boat. It has worked well for the last few years but within the last week, it has failed to download anything.

I have trouble-shooted today by double-checking the configuration. resetting the router and then re-writingthe config, I tried new aerials, cleaned the SIM card slots and I even tested the SIM card in a mobile device to make sure it wasn't the SIM.

My next guess would be that the router is end of life (originally delivered 17 Jan 2014) and a new one to be purchased but just wanted to check if anyone has any ideas what the fix could be for this before going ahead and buying a new one.

Any help is appreciated. Let me know if you need to see any config.

Thanks,

Fred

Hello,

could indeed be a hardware issue. Post the running config anyway, maybe we can spot something. Who is your ISP ?

Hi,

Could be the router or the 4G module. Connect to it and investigate.

Cristian Matei.

Hello

Just like to add - Have you relocated this box from its original location or moved some furniture etc - Have you made sure the signal isn't being impeded in anyway?

Please rate and mark as an accepted solution if you have found any of the information provided useful.

Hi Paul,

Can confirm the router is in a position where the service provider of the SIM has a strong signal. As I investigate it more and more it seems to be an issue with the SIM slots as the SIM light doesn't flash at all and there's also no command line log stating a SIM has been recognised (both SIM slots tested).

I assume it's hardware failure but if there's any sort of command that can force search for a SIM that'll be great.

Cheers,

Fred

Hello,

try and reinsert the SIM card, then reboot the router, it might get rediscovered...

Also, post the output of:

show cellular x/x/x all

No luck I'm afraid. Tried this multiple times, with the old SIM card and a newly activated one.

Hello,

does your 819 have dual SIM slots (slot 0 and slot 1) ? If so, you might want to try the other slot...

Have tried this too but no luck.

Hello,

when you issue the command:

show cellular x/x/x all

there should be a section similar to this:

Radio Information
=================
Radio power mode = Online
Current RSSI = -125 dBm >>>>>>> either no antenna, or bad antenna or out of network.
Radio power mode = Online
LTE Technology Selected = LTE

Is there any value at 'Current RSSI' ?

Hi George,

Radio Information
=================
Radio power mode = OFF, Reason = Unknown
Current Band = None, Channel Number = 0
Current RSSI = -0 dBm
Band Selected = not selected due to invalid band mask

Hello,

to be honest, it looks pretty dead indeed...

When you boot the router, does the boot sequence shpw any self test failures ?

Hi George, below is the boot up sequence...
