Cisco 886 Router DSL connection

bob
Level 1
Level 1

I just installed a 886 router.  I noticed that the xDSL CD light is flashing... slow then fast.  I am assuming the DSL line is not syncing up.  How do I go about diagnosing the problem. I am connecting to an ATT dsl equipment.

I would not worry about the light flashing slow or fast, but here are a few thing you can do to make sure you are up and running"

If you issue command "sh ip int brief" do you see the DSL interface in UP and UP mode?

Are you exchanging routes with ATT?

Can you ping ATT router interface?

No, the interface is down.  My old router works on the DSL line.  Trying to install the 886 router.

I see, ATM0 is down.

what type cable is connected to ATM0 interface?

The phone line RJ11 connector. I am assuming that the ATM 0 interface is using the RJ11 connector in the back of the unit.  I also just noticed that the label says ADSLoISDN.  I am assuming that this will work with SBC DSLline.

I called ATT and my DSL line is ADSL2 which this router supports.  Still trying to figure this thing out.

could you post output of "sh dsl int atm 0 "

Yes, I will get that for you.

I think I purchased the wrong routers.  I called Cisco pre sales and they said this was the router I needed.  Does this router only support ADSL over ISND?  I think I have ADSL2 over POTS.

Hi,

ADSL Annex A means ADSL over POTS,
ADSL Annex B means ADSL over ISDN.

If the 886 is ADSL over ISDN only, then it will not have the option to do Annex A.

if you are looking for ADSL over POTS go with CISCO887VA-K9.

You can post me "sh inv" and "sh ver" to reconfirm it.

Please refer to data sheets,
