Console not working on Cisco 4506 SUP-II

I have a Cisco 4506 with SUP-II. This is a standby switch and someone was previously using the same for testing. Now when I am trying to connect to the console its not showing anything. I have tried changing the speed to various settings from 9600 to 115200 but of no use. Also I have checked my console cable and port its being connected to (Both are workign for other switch). Also the utilisation shown on the Switch is 100%. I doubt there is some problem with the SUP. Please suggest.

when u try these speeds, do u get any junk characters on the screen ? have you tried speeds lower than 9600 ? are there users on the switch ? when you say standby switch, was it running HSRP ? or was it just a cold standby.

I tried all speeds but no junk characters. Triwed speed below 9600 also. No users on Switcha and it was in cold standby and not HSRP.

hi kumar here

1: is your switch having two sup engine, then the console on the active sup will only work.

2: if your switch is showing 100 % util then there is a problem and this can be the reason why the console is not responding,

3 to solve this and check if you sup-11 console is fine you can disconnect all the lan cables from the switch as this will not be of any use as the proc of the switch is 100%,

4: now after all the cables are disconnected the proc will come down and you can check the console

how the above steps solves your problem

1. No only one SUP engine.. otherwise my switch would have been accessible.

2. yes switch show 100% util and before that it does not respond in the console too. Seems to be a problem with SUP.

3. I have removed all other modules from the SUP and still does not respond.

4. It is a boot up procedure when the utilisation goes to 100% and then comes down when it boots up..

Thanks for the help though..

Power cycle the switch with a PC connected to the console port. See if you see the boot up sequence in your hyperterminal.

Didnt get anything on console after that too. Had checked all these steps already.. Thanks. The SUP has gone bad. I tried a new SUP-II made available by my Service Provider and everythign seems to be working..
