Data License

Hi,

I am a new born here in Cisco World. I need to configure two links (active and failover) on router 2911. Do I need DATA LICENSE to configure this with static router and route-map?

Any suggessions will be cordially welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Azhar

Data License

Hello Azhar,

you don't need the DATA license for this.

the basic IP Base license is enough

see

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps10616/white_paper_c11_556985.html

IPBaseK9

Offers  features found in IPBase IOS image on ISR 1800,2800 and 3800 + Flexible  Netflow + IPV6 parity for IPV4 features present in IPBase. Some of the  key feature are AAA BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, ISIS, RIP >>PBR<< IGMP, Multicast DHCP  HSRP, GLBP NHRP HTTP HQF QoS ACL, NBAR GRE CDP, ARP NTP PPP PPPoA PPPoE  RADIUS TACACS SCTP SMDS SNMP STP VLAN DTP IGMP Snooping SPAN WCCP ISDN  ADSL over ISDN NAT-Basic X.25, RSVP, NTP, Flexible Netflow etc.

Hope to help

Data License

Hi Azhar,

i would honestly buy the DATA license for a simple reason. The routers that Giuseppe listed are ISR G1 while your is an ISR G2. On the ISR G2 i have the strong sensation that the IPBase license is much more limited than what it was on the ISR G1 like the 2811(IOS 12.4T for example). The second reason i want to mention is the scalability. I have worked with 2911 with IPBase license and essentially theyyou can't implement anything else than static routing and few more features..  What do you want to redistribute with these features?

Again,

the data who Giuseppe provided are correct (as usual) but i would consider to check this link as a start point to understand if your really want only the IPBase license (Included with the Cisco2911)

Data License

Hello Alessio,

I have provided a link to the same document that you have linked !

and the ISR G1 routers are mentioned in first table of that document for comparison and I have reported that part of the table to highlight that the PBR feature is supported in IP Base.

I may be wrong  but for static routes and route-maps  ( PBR) the IP base should be enough.

Hope to help

Data License

Hi Giuseppe,

i do not think you are wrong(it is even dificult to think ) but when i had to work with a 2911 without license (provider mistake) that was a quite frustrating experience. I could not for example configure BGP even if the IOS was UNIVERSAL . By the way, my main point was scalability. On this, we both agree on the limits.

Take Care

Alessio
