Downgrade Cisco 4K from IOS-XE 17.3.x to 16.12.x

hi,

i got a cisco 4K router with IOS-XE 17.3 and have voice and sec K9 license bundled.

we still use "smart" transport and don't use "CSLU" transport method in our smart license.

my question is, is the smart license via CSLU mandatory? i can see the smart licensing status is "registration not applicable".

does this mean the smart license currently installed are "perpetual" and features will function normally without registering to smart license server?

what if i "downgrade" to 16.12 so we can use the "smart" transport we normally use in our IOS-XE routers. will it retain the current smart licenses?

my question is, is the smart license via CSLU mandatory? i can see the smart licensing status is "registration not applicable".

- its not mandatory, but good to have smart license server checking the status.

does this mean the smart license currently installed are "perpetual" and features will function normally without registering to smart license server?

- yes perpetual License for life with devices.

what if i "downgrade" to 16.12 so we can use the "smart" transport we normally use in our IOS-XE routers. will it retain the current smart licenses?

- command syntax may change from 16.12 to 17.3 - not sure what is the reason for downgrade,

hi balaji,

my concern is more on the smart license feature when doing the IOS-XE 17.3.x to 16.12.x downgrade.

our standard 4K setup use the 16.x code and "smart" transport for smart license.

if smart license feature is perpetual and registering to smart license server is not mandatory, then i will stick to 17.3.x.
