Hello everyone,
I need some help with getting my EHWIC-VA-DSL-A configured on my CenturyLink circuit. When I change the operating mode from auto to vdsl2, the card doesn't want to sync up to the DSLAM. I have some insider knowledge of the CenturyLink DSLAM being a Calix E7.

Hello,
when you set it to 'auto' it doesn't sync either ? Which firmware are you using ?
--> firmware filename flash:vdsl.bin-xxxxxxxx ?

When I have the operating mode set to auto, it uses the ADSL2+ fallback ports on the Calix E7 VDSL2-48C. The firmware version is A2pv6C039t.d24o_rc1.

Hello,
that one is going to be tough, and likely a trial and error experience, as I cannot find any compatibility information with Calix DSLAMs at all. The link below has several firmware releases, you could try and install those and check if one of them works...

I changed the firmware and it is still using the ADSL2+ fallback port on the Calix E7.

Hello,
it might very well be that Cisco and Calix, or at least that specific module, don't go together. I can find DSLAM compatibility info for everything from Ericsson to Siemens, Alcatel, Lucent, Nokia, Fujitsu, and Huawei, but nothing at all for Calix.

So, I reached out to CenturyLink and bumped up my internet speed to 30Mbps, now it is negotiating VDSL2... guess the 15Mbps plan is ADSL2+...

Hello,
that is something you would not think of right away...:)
Glad that you got the issue resolved !

It didn't occur to me until a few days ago... I am still kind of at a loss as to why when I bumped up my internet speed that it also changed me over to VDSL2... perhaps I was actually on the Calix C7 by my house... then today, I was switched over to the E7... Now I just have to bug CenturyLink and figure out why the circuit speed is 28Mbps and not 30Mbps... the sync rate should be 33Mbps. I am going to guess that it is degraded copper in the neighborhood.

Additional to @Georg Pauwen comments, what is the Router model here, what version of code running.
Looks at some configuration guide lines :

change mode in cont vdsl to
controller VDSL 0/0/0
operating mode vdsl2
then use : SH CONT VDSL 0/0/0
will let you know the exact sync speed and maximum attainable speed
from there you can see the quality of the line
you may need to change the main tel cable from box to the router with a new cable
i am using a network cable cat6 for that and the line speed is very good and stable

I should have updated this post a long time ago, apologies for bumping this post even though it is months old but I got it working because it was an issue on CenturyLink's side. Also there was an issue withing wiring (should have tested layer 1 before going to point blame on the line card, my bad). As of right now, I have moved the router down to another telephone jack in the garage and the circuit is currently at 30Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. Also I was moved to a new port on the DSLAM at the crossbox.
