it will allow the router to " fast switching " and it will not degrade the performance

Hello,
commonly "fast-switching" is refered to as cache based, whereas CEF is topology based. In brief: CEF is superior with respect to performance. Some features like NBAR and MPLS even require CEF to be turned on. Turning on CEF will turn off fast-switching. The "price" is higher memory utilization for the additional topology information, the cef table.
Hope this helps! Please rate all posts.
