Healthy bandwidth utilization

Is there a bandwidth utilization percentage that is considered "healthy?"  We run our WAN link at 99% utilization.  The QoS should be doing its job and dropping less critical packets.

99 or even 100 is fine, if you can accept network slowness.

Really depends on the nature of the traffic.  Bulk data transfers that are transferred fast enough to finish within a time window are generally fine running a link at 100%.  Latency sensitive traffic, might require as little as about 1/3 utilization (not counting QoS de-prioritized latency insensitive traffic utilization).

Thanks guys.  I was just curious if it was something like CPU where you want to keep it less than 80% to protect the hardware. I was worried there was a risk of the port melting.

remember, its full duplex so you have the same capacity send as you do receive.

No, there is no such risk. These are routers not combustion engines.
