hi,

we have 7206VXR Routers as the core Routers .The CPU utilization on these routers is showing 100% most time of the day.im attaching the sh processes cpu history output .

kindly let me know is there a problem or is it a normal behavoiur .also let me know how to rectify it as its our core router.

hi,

this is NOT a normal behavoiur !

first you have to troubleshoot which process is responsible for that cpu-load:

do a "sh proc cp sort" - so you can see which proceß has the most cpu-cycles.

!

is "cef" enabeld ?

you can check this by doing a "sh ip cef"!

!

pls try

hi,

thanks for the response.

cef is not enabled in network.

following is the outut of the sh proce cpu sort

32 9803280 2260666 4336 0.55% 0.45% 0.44% 0 Per-Second Jobs

50 3414016 83988891 40 0.23% 0.27% 0.25% 0 IP Input

kindly help ...to resolve.

It seems that it is your utilisation is spiking as the average utlisation is still low. This is because from your graph, you have asterixs(*) and not hash(#).

I will advice you to give the sh proc cpu sorted 5sec comamnd repeated, until you capture an utilisation that is high and you can then see the highest utilisation then. That will point you in the direction for the reslution.

You could enable CEF, but since I doubt that the problem is due to traffic, I doubt that it will solve it.

There's a number of troubleshooting documents on CCO that look should help to track down the cause.
