Hi All,

My company has recently purchase Cisco VWIC-2MFT-G703 card for our new MPLS link setup & I have asked to configure it on Cisco 2811 series router. I can see that my router is detecting card I have installed it in slot number 2 of router but I am unable to configure it. I have tried several commands from Cisco on-line documentation but it didn't help me. Here is the output of those commands...

Cisco2811(config)#card type E1 2

Card in slot 2 was removed or does not support command.

Also this...

Cisco2811(config)#interface serial 0/2/0

^

% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Could you please suggest me if there is any other command to configure VWIC card on Cisco 2811? Or does it need any activation?

Here is the show diag for slot 2 of router...

Hello Ganesh,

try to see if

conf t

controller e1 0/2/0

is supported  it it looks like you need to go this way

see

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps2617/products_configuration_example09186a008052c920.shtml

if so you need to configure a channel-group

controller e1 0/2/0

no shut

channel-group 0 unframed

a serial interface is created

serial 0/2/0:0

verify with your provider if you need an unframed or all timeslots in a group config

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe,

Thanks a lot...

This command worked. Great help!

The card is having two ports on it 0 & 1. This command has created Interface Serial0/2/0:0 & Interface Serial0/2/1:0 (after issuing controller e1 0/2/1 command). I can now able assign IP address to the interfaces.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Ganesh

Note unless SP insists on unframed, G703 version is not necessary and circuit can be done with the regular, less expensive VWIC.

Thanks for the info Bevilacqua,

We were told by our SP Qwest for the G.703 specifically.

Thanks!

Guiseppe THANKS a lot !!!!

Four years after your post, you could solve similar problem with a VWIC3-1MFT-T1/E1 card.

Enrique

Just want to also add that I had this same issue on a 2821 router, using a VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1 module card. I originally had it in slot 2, and ran into this configuration error. After moving the module card to slot 2, the error disappeared, and I was able to proceed with configuration.

Doesn't help much if you have existing module cards in slots 0 and 1 (which I did), but it did solve the initialization portion of the configuration.

Weird...
