I am ordering a handful of Cisco 4331 routers, should I order with pre-installed SRST Licenses or how hard is it to install the SRST license after the fact?

Hello,

in the following link there is a more recent guide about software license activation on ISR G2 and 4000 series routers.

see

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/access/sw_activation/SA_on_ISR.html#69756

the CME -SRST is considered a feature license each node on which you want to have it must have the uck9 technology package license.

Being a feature license if you want to support a different number of phones in SRST on each router I think you should install the appropriate license on each router. Buying 20 SKU each of them for 5 phones should allow you to associate the desired number of phones for each device. You will install multiple 5 phones licenses on devices that should support 10 phones or more.

Buying a single 100 phones license would allow you to support up to 100 phones in a SINGLE router as you could install it in a single device. At that point you could not use it on multiple devices at the same time.

Edit:

just to make the scenario more complex a new type of licensing is now available for 4000 series  called smart licensing see the following link

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/software/smart-accounts/software-licensing.html

Hope to help

Hello,

give a look at the following link that describes the process for ISR G2 devices

https://community.cisco.com/t5/collaboration-voice-and-video/understanding-cme-srst-license-activation/ta-p/3123270

If the licensing model is still the same, you need to order the uck9 technology package in any case before being able to activate the SRST license as described in the link above.

Edit:

yes the licensing model is the same for 4331 see the following thread

https://community.cisco.com/t5/ip-telephony-and-phones/isr-4331-has-no-voice-commands-after-swapping-hardware/m-p/3369331

if you go down there is the output of show licenses all after problem is fixed and package uck9 is active permanent.

Also the way to trigger SRST is the same with the same set of commands.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Thank you for the reply, still not sure.   I am ordering 20 routers, two require 11 SRST licenses, another requires 10, other 6 and so on.  Should I order on a each basis pre-loaded or a total of 100 SRST licenses and apply as needed.
