ISR 4331 SFP

Hi Folks

Wonder if you could help have an ISR 4331 with an SFP (SFP-GB-GE-T) in interface G0/0/2.

It is set for auto negotiation and negotiates to 100M/Full duplex to an ADVA NTE. Although the interface comes up I am seeing CRC errors. The circuit that the interface is connected to is clean. The problem is related to the ISR/SFP.

Strangely if I connect a router directly to the ISR with auto negotiation the link comes up at 1G/Full with no CRC errors.

I have checked out the SFP and it appears that I cannot find anything on the Cisco website in respect of SFP-GB-GE-T only SFP-GE-T. Does anyone know what the GB means or what the difference is between the two types of SFPs.

Could anyone suggest what the issue may be?

SFP-GE-T  (GLC-T)- This is the Cisco SFP i have used and works as expected GE -Gigabit Ethernet ( Maybe GB Gigabit - with rd Party)

what is the service provider delivery? 100MB or Gigabit?

SFP-GB-GE-T  - From cisco? never seen or are we missing some information here?

try below command :  (this will flap the interface to re-negotiate, if you doing from internet, you may lost connection) so try from lan side

no negotiation auto 

it also good to post-

show interface gig x/x

  and

show version 

to understand the issue better.

Yes the interface is clocking up CRC errors. We have swapped the cables. In fact we disconnected the cable from the ISR and connected it to a test router with a GigE RJ45 interface and we had a clean connection so I can only assume that it is the SFP/router. 

The SFP is SFP-GB-GE-T however I was unable to find this model on Cisco site. There is however SFP-GE-T. I was wondering what the difference is between these SFPs. 

By the way we have swapped out SFPs but not sure what modules were used.

GLC-T or GLC-TE would be sufficient.

Can you move the SFP to a different port and see if the results are the same?

you need to ask your ISP what's their port speed/duplex and hard code the same on your 4331 port.

can you try below:

int g0/0/2

 no negotiation auto

 speed 100

 duplex full

 shut

 no shut

I have managed to implement a workaround for the problem by swapping the SFP interface for a RJ45 interface on the router. I could not get the SFP  interface to work with the ADVA NTE. I tried the SFP-GB-GE-T and Cisco GLC-T.

The ADVA NTE (FSP 150-GE102Pro) which terminates the Openreach circuit is set up for auto negotiate at Full/100M.

Using the GLC-T the interface would not come up. 

SFP-GB-GE-T is not a Cisco module. It is a compatible SFP made by FS (https://www.fs.com/products/11773.html?attribute=945&id=284134)

Apparently there are two types with the same product name, 10/100/1000M and 1000M. If you insert the 1000M  module then the link comes up at Full/100M on the ISR but CRC errors are seen. If the former is used it also comes up as Full/100M but without any CRC errors. Unfortunately it would not pass any frames.

So we could not get the SPF interface to work with the ADVA NTE and had to use the RJ45 interface on the router.

Hope this helps anyone else that encounters the same problem.

I have encountered this issue with various ADVA NTE models (114Pro, 116Pro).

All of the testing I have performed with them indicates that they just don't like running an optical SFP at 100-Full.
