Looking for a way to handle printing services and voice services in one device.
When two services are on separate VLANs but a device needs both services, what is the proper way to handle this situation?
One way was setting up an Inter-VLAN configuration, but I feel this might put traffic on the wrong VLAN.
So for a little more detail, I'm developing a device that accepts print jobs and has SIP faxing capabilities. I'm trying to figure out the proper way to configure the up range switch and router to deliver these two service to the device. What I am concerned about when using the Inter-VLAN approach is that data from the print side bleeding into the voice side.
There is only one IP Address and gateway for the device and I need to keep both services separated as they leave the device.
Thanks for any information you can impart to me.

Hello,
the traditional way to get two Vlans on one port is by using data and voice Vlans. Could the voice Vlan be used for the voice services :
What device are you developing ? Is that device capable of trunking multiple Vlans ?

Hello Georg,
I am not at liberty to disclose what I am developing, I can say that it uses different aspects of networking that normally are separated by vlans. The normal feature of this device uses a data vlan to communicate. The new feature that was just developed which is in addition to the normal feature uses voice communication which are generally on a different VLAN.
The device only uses one IP Address or this would be really simple to set up. I believe the answer is inter-VLAN configuration, but how do I make sure that the communication for the data segment doesn't bleed into the voice side?
Thank you

Hello
is this device able to tag the printer and sip traffic differently- if so how are you presently applying this configuration?

Hello Paul:
Thanks for the support, Although the device can be set up to work with 2 different VLANs, the second VLAN configuration does not allow any network communication, (yeah Short sightedness on someone part). SO to answer your question, I would have to say No, I can not tag the functions differently.
I will be entering a specification change for that, but its years down the line before it will be changed.
