Hi people,
So I'm having a bit of a meltdown here and would really appreciate some help from you lovely people in the Cisco community. I'm new to posting on these forums so forgive me if it's in the wrong place (I also posted it on the Cisco Learning Community). I'm about to start studying for the CCNA Wireless exam and thought I'd get myself up and running with a home lab setup. WLC purchased- check, AP purchased-check, Cisco 897VA router to connect to my home fibre broadband network-check. ppp connection to my ISP up -No. Argggggh. Tearing my hair out if I had any left !
I'm having real issues getting the ppp connection to my ISP up and running. I've made the following assumptions.
So does anyone have a clue what may be going wrong ? I've attached a copy of my config, output from the debug and show controllers vdsl0.
I'd really appreciate some help folks.
Thanks in advance,
Tom

Hi,
In my view with TalkTalk fiber there is no ppp&dialer configuration. Will you please try to adjust your configuration as per beneath:
interface Ethernet0
no ip address
interface Ethernet0.101
encapsulation dot1Q 101
ip address dhcp
ip nat outside
ip virtual-reassembly in
and also point both your nat inside list and default route to Ethernet0.101
Best regards,
Antonin

No worries. Post your config and debug/log. You using adsl? With atm interface and dialer. Plenty documentation on. Send config plZ

Hello,
post the full running configuration of your 897VA router, you might be missing something small...

Hello
@hzhxwb wrote:I'm having real issues getting the ppp connection to my ISP up and running. I've made the following assumptions.
- The connection should be pppoE as it's fibre (40Mbps download) connection in the U.K from TalkTalk (my ISP). I've tried configuring an ATM sub interface as a last resort but the ATM interface doesn't even come up/up so guessing ppoE is what I should be configuring
- Judging by the output of debug ppp authentication, authentication seems to be failing but I don't know if that's a username and password issue. I don't think it is as Talk Talk have an automated number you can call to confirm it and I have done so. I guess it should be using chap and have tried pap but no joy. Is there any way to tell which it should be.
- I should be able to use my Cisco router instead of the Talk Talk provided hub. I did this before when I was with a different ISP and it worked fine.
Just like to add-
When your assuming the above does that also include knowing your ppoe autheniton creds -hostname-passwords etc...
Are/have you changed the isp modem to be bridged to enable you to do this?

Bingo. Thanks so much for your help. It's working fine now. I went down a blind alley with ppp. and I was really confused as Talk Talk provide a telephone number that when dialled from the line that the DSL service is on gives you a username and password i.e broadband telephone number@talktalk.net and password. It's different from any other credentials and I assumed this was the ppp chap hostname.
Really appreciate you taking the time to help Antonin. I can get on with the other things in my lab now.
