Hi All,
Apologies if this is a really straight forward answer but I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to stop a router responding to a NAT statement. Essentially there is a device on the other side of the router with a public IP address. In the router there is a NAT statement on the Outside interface for this device that translates to an internal IP address. This allows us to reach the device using an internal IP address rather than its real public IP address. This all works well except when the device goes down. In this scenario the internal NAT IP address continues to respond and it appears it's the router responding. The problem with this is it is very misleading as we don't know if the device is truly down since pings continue to work.
Is there a way to stop the router from responding to the internal NAT IP address when the device at the other end is not responding?
Regards,
Craig

Hi,
Try this:
ip nat inside source static [local IP] [Global IP] no-alias.
