Redistribute OSPF routes into BGP bug?

Rick Bergfeld

Site connectivity is as follows.

distributing ospf routes into bgp and bgp routes into ospf

I've implemented prefix-lists to filter out networks.  It's working when using /24 statements.

ip prefix-list OSPFtoBGP seq 5 permit 10.1.2.0/24

ip prefix-list OSPFtoBGP seq 10 permit 10.1.7.0/24

ip prefix-list OSPFtoBGP seq 15 permit 10.1.11.0/24

ip prefix-list OSPFtoBGP seq 20 permit 10.1.15.0/24

ip prefix-list OSPFtoBGP seq 25 permit 192.168.6.0/24

ip prefix-list OSPFtoBGP seq 30 permit 192.168.8.0/24

ip prefix-list OSPFtoBGP seq 35 permit 192.168.9.0/24

!

route-map OSPF_BGP permit 10

match ip address prefix-list OSPFtoBGP

!

route-map OSPF_BGP deny 50

!

router bgp 65534

redistribute connected

redistribute ospf 100 route-map OSPF_BGP

sh ip route bgp

10.0.0.0/8 is variably subnetted, 57 subnets, 4 masks

B       10.1.11.0/24 [20/0] via 10.125.35.2, 00:36:57

B       10.1.15.0/24 [20/0] via 10.125.35.2, 00:36:57

B       10.1.2.0/24 [20/0] via 10.125.35.2, 00:36:57

B       10.1.7.0/24 [20/0] via 10.125.35.2, 00:37:23

B    192.168.9.0/24 [20/0] via 10.125.35.2, 00:36:57

B    192.168.6.0/24 [20/0] via 10.125.35.2, 00:37:23

<UPDATE> Instead of adding more entries to prefix-list OSPFtoBGP for 10.7.4.0/24, 10.7.8.0/24, 10.7.28.0/24, etc, I would like to add an entry to the prefix list that would cover this entire 10.7.0.0/16 network.  <UPDATE>

But when I try to add this prefix so that I can summarize the prefix list alot easier so I don't have to add singular /24 networks.

ip prefix-list OSPFtoBGP seq 155 permit 10.7.0.0/16 ge 24 le 24

It drops local bgp routes entirely for about 10 minutes after I remove the prefix statement.

I think what you want is:

ip prefix-list OSPFtoBGP seq 155 permit 10.1.0.0/20 le 24

The prefix you used to summarize (10.7.0.0/16) doesn't match anything else on the configuration.

Sorry, I clarified what it is I'm trying to do.  Instead of adding 10.7.4.0/24, 10.7.8.0/24, etc for every network in the 10.7.0.0/16 space, I would just like to add 1 line that would cover the whole network instead of the individual entries.  But when I add the statement ip prefix-list OSPFtoBGP seq 155 permit 10.7.0.0/16 ge 24 le 24, my BGP session drops.  it reconverges 10 minutes later after I remove that line.

Prefix list entry '10.7.0.0/16 ge 24 le 24' indeed matches your requirement. Also I have simulated a local setup and could not reproduce the issue. I was only checking the OSP to BGP redistribution and everything looks fine

Could you post topology, OSPF and BGP configuration and routing table?

SITE A is connected to SITE B by Provider A using BGP

SITE C is connected to SITE B by Provider B using OSPF

I have OSPF & BGP configured on the core switch at Site B.

I've taken some of the network out.

Tried the same confiugration on a miniscule network. Applied the same mutual redistribution configs and the results looks fine here.

Though may not be related to this error, I am wondering why both redistributed connected and

'network 192.168.30.0 mask 255.255.254.0' is added under BGP config

thanks for testing in a different environment.  I don't know what the problem is.

I added the network statements so that I could keep track of what networks are behind which routers.  My topology was only summarized as these 3 sites are the only ones involved in the OSPF <--> BGP distributions.

Is there a problem with doing that?

I hope this BGP is not over GRE ?

Care to elaborate?  1 router has OSPF running, 1 router has BGP running.  The Data Center switch is running BGP and OSPF.  All 3 devices are local.  No GRE.

Figured it out.  I was hitting he max prefix limit set by the  Provider on their Edge router.  Took them 3 days to respond to my open  support request.
