Router - configure Track command

Hello Experts,

I need to configure a router so that it can detect when one gateway is down.

I was told that there is a command named "track" that sends a constant ping to detect if the gateway is up. If the ping is not detected then it will be sent via route-map to the other gateway. Anyone has some links to read on this? Or perhaps a configuration example using track?

Yes tracking does work the way you heard, but it doesnt just use icmp but also udp or http get request. Tracking can be used in a number of ways viz with hsrp, routing, PBR etc.
