Hi all. Seems like there are a lot of BGP discussions, but in my searches I have not seen any discussions that directly touch on the use case I have in mind.
Scenario:
I have an ARIN-assigned /24, a single ASR1001x, and two ISP's who are willing to use BGP to send me default routes or the entire BGP routing table. They'll work with me either way, but they prefer sending default routes.
We would like to use ISP A as the primary outbound, and we want to advertise the /24 subnet through ISP A. ISP B is not in use at this time. The BGP neighbor with ISP B can be up, but I don't want to send or receive any traffic to the Internet through ISP B.
If ISP A goes down and/or the ISP A BGP neighbor goes down, we want to switch over to ISP B and use ISP B for all outbound and advertise the /24 through ISP B.
When ISP A comes back up, we want to switch back to using ISP A.
It may seem a waste to have ISP B up but not in use, but it makes sense in our particular situation.
Any advice would be most welcome.
TIA
Brian
