speed issues.

Hi Friends,

Please advice on below.

We have a customer who has taken 100 Meg internet line.

There is a managed switch (l2) in customer location, switch details are.

WS-C2960S-24TS-S

(C2960S-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE5, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Port Gi0/1 connects to customer firewall and had below configuration.

interface GigabitEthernet0/1
description 100Mb internet
switchport access vlan 262
speed 100
duplex full
no cdp enable
spanning-tree bpdufilter enable
spanning-tree guard root

They have this line since 4 years appx and they were getting purchased speed for quite a long time.

Recently, we have migrated our core, we migrated from C7300-JS-M to ASR1004. Since then they started raising concerns on speed that they are not getting expected speed (they were getting 60-70 when tested on speedtest.com)

I took up the call, had a brief investigation and changed the speed and duplex of managed switch interface Gi0/1 to 1000 and full.

interface GigabitEthernet0/1
description  100Mb internet
switchport access vlan 262
speed 1000
duplex full
no cdp enable
spanning-tree bpdufilter enable
spanning-tree guard root
end

They started getting assigned speed (close to 100)

Customer would like to know the reason why suddenly this has happened when it was working on 100/full for so long time.

FYI - There has been no changes at customer end, physically or logically.

Can someone please advice?

Regards,

Sheshu.

There are some things in your explanation that I do not understand. You tell us that Gig0/1 connects to the firewall. And you tell us that you have changed the core. And you tell us that when you changed the speed of Gig0/1 that it solved the problem.

If Gig0/1 connected to the core that changed I could understand what happened. Your explanation implies that the firewall did not change. But something about the connection of the switch port Gig0/1 must have changed because changing the speed of the interface solved the issue.
