Hi,

We noticed the same behaviour on the Cisco ASA. When you try to add more than 1 eigrp process, you will get a message "Too many IP routing processes for this routing protocol. ERROR: Unable to create router process"

Its (your router) supports just <> instance of EIGRP process and that is as per design.

Please share "Show Version" output.

Hi,

How many EIGRP process do you have running already?
What version and IOS feature do you have?

You're limited to 30 process EIGRP if I recall correctly.

Can you share your actual EIGRP config please?

Thanks
Francesco

I have 24 eigrp 5 ospf  and 1 bgp  process

I need to check but i have 30 in mind as limit.
Can you share your config to see if there's a way we can tweak it a bit?
Let me take one in lab and test and come back to you.

Thanks
Francesco

Hi.

As Francesco says, there is a limit of 30 processes.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/iproute_eigrp/configuration/15-mt/ire-15-mt-book/ire-enhanced-igrp.html

It seems that you are only allowed to have 30 processes, but this ammount is the sum of any other protocol thay may be running int the box also.

For example, here I have OSPF previsouly configured with two neighbors

R5#sh ip ospf neighbor

Neighbor ID Pri State Dead Time Address Interface
233.233.233.233 1 FULL/DR 00:00:36 192.168.35.3 Ethernet1/2
234.234.234.234 1 FULL/DR 00:00:32 192.168.45.4 Ethernet1/1
Lab#

If I try to create EIGRP processes, I can only create 28, because I have already occupied 2 of the available processes with OSPF

Lab#sh run | i eigrp
router eigrp 1
router eigrp 2
router eigrp 3
router eigrp 4
router eigrp 5
router eigrp 6
router eigrp 7
router eigrp 8
router eigrp 9
router eigrp 10
router eigrp 11
router eigrp 12
router eigrp 13
router eigrp 14
router eigrp 15
router eigrp 16
router eigrp 17
router eigrp 18
router eigrp 19
router eigrp 20
router eigrp 21
router eigrp 22
router eigrp 23
router eigrp 24
router eigrp 25
router eigrp 26
router eigrp 27
router eigrp 28
Lab#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Lab(config)#router eigrp 29
too many IP routing processes
Lab(config)#

Now, if I try to enable any other protocol, I won´t be able to do it also, because of this limit

Lab(config)#router bgp 2323
too many IP routing processes
Lab(config)#
