Hi @Pauljbl

I think this discussion can help you:

https://community.cisco.com/t5/routing/2821-version-id-v03-and-v01/td-p/1332776

On occasion, some IOSs are compatible with more recent versions, but I have seen the latest release note of your device and no differences are indicated by the version:

Are higher version numbers better?

Do they have better hardware?

Higher versions means different internal components.
Won't make any difference about the higher hardware version numbers.

Do you know why they change the components and make different versions?

sometimes a "new" HW revision is simply an advance in chip technology.

chips are fabricated with higher integration or less power consumption because of the production technique used.

sometimes multiple chips are integrated in a single new chip, which results in simpeler printed circuit board en less components to place during production.

in many if these cases there is no difference in functionality.
