2248 best pratice ?

Good morning,

I am sorry to ask this, being more of a telecom person. we are in the process of trying to clean up our racks and network structure. we are installing 2 7k cores that will fiber out to our racks with 2248s installed. the installer says best pratice for server interface is to plug an ethernet cable in to the 2248 and then cut the other end and terminiate to a patch panel, and in to the patch panel we will interface to our servers...

does this sound right to anyone..

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

That definately does NOT sound right.  The purpose of a 2248 is to be positioned as a TOR (top of rack) aggregation point.  There's no need to cut & splice connections for this.

Robert

Robert,

Thanks, i mean even to me a novice this sounded strange...we are using this CO for the first time and so far it hasnt gone well. but we had a call yesterday and i asked why??? he stated it was Cisco BP ...i looked at some manuals but could not finfd anything that stated as much or any diagram that showed a patch between server and 2248.

so in your opinion server to 2248 is fine?

thank you again!!

Like Robert said, N2K is possition as TOR, meaning to eliminate the  patch panel in the server rack to avoid all the messy copper cables.  Re-terminating the cable into a patch panel is just extra work without  any meaning. Maybe the CO wants to charge you for more man hours ($$$).

You should ask him what happen if you are doing 10GE with Nexus 2232 with Twinax cable? Should you cut the Twinax also?
