I am planning to install an I/O (C7200-I/O-2FE/E)controller in 7206VXR, it doesnt have any I/O controller as its running with NPE-G1, do i need to bring down the router to install the controller or does it support OIR for controllers too.

Hi Ankur
The document shows either removing or replacing the I/O controller which is already installed but in my case i dont have any I/O controllers as the router is running with NPE-G1, all my configuration file is present in the NPE not in I/O controller.

Hello,
i think you need to power off the device i did it this way last year because the i/o controller will have to connect to the PCI buses internal to the 7206 VXR.
hope to help

Question,
I am not sure if this is a valid combination but could you explain to us why you need the I/O controller ?
The 7206 vxr has three gigabit ethernet if and I believe it is enough for any installations.

Hi,
It is strongly recommeded to bring down the router while installing any I/O cards. It is a best practice.
Good Luck.
