Greetings All,
I am running 12.1(20)E. When I try to configure ethernet dlsw The command
(config)#bridge 5 prot ?
dec DEC protocol
ibm IBM protocol
vlan-bridge vlan-bridge protocol
Why I am not getting option for IEEE ? Am I missing something here ?
Thanks

IEEE is not available in the native CAT-OS and you will want to use the vlan-bridge spanning tree instance.

Hi,
the reason for this is that the underlaying box, even when you run native ios is still a switch with an msfc2 . This combinations is already using ieee by default for all the vlans created on this combo. If you run additional ieee spanning tree for bridging functions on the box you may merge those spanning tree's which can cause some quite unpredictable conditions. This is the reason why the spanning tree protocol vlan-bridge was invented to make sure that the spanning tree's on the layer 3 capable device and the one's used on the vlan's of the switch part of the box dont mix.
dlsw works fine with the spanning tree protocol vlan-bridge.
thanks...
Matthias
