How to count Nexus 1000v license for VMWare based on Physical CPUs?

We have 10 blade servers, each blade has 4 CPU sockets, each socket/CPU has 12 Cores.

In calculating the license for Nexus 1000v.

If Physcial CPU means sockets. then the number will be 10x4=40.

If Physical CPU means cores, it will be 10x4x12=480.

Please advise which one is correct calculation?

Hi,

The Nexus 1000V is licensed per physical CPU. As per Information About Licenses:

"One Cisco Nexus 1000V license is needed for each installed server CPU on every Virtual Ethernet Module (VEM) in the distributed architecture. There is no limit to the number of cores per CPU."

Note though that there are two license editions; essentials and advanced editions (see Cisco Nexus 1000V Multi-Hypervisor Licensing). The essentials edition has many of the required features and is zero cost.

Regards
