A quick and simple spreadsheet to help installers plan POE (Power over Ethernet) requirements for a customer install. To use the spreadsheet:

- Enter the quantity of each POE device in the "Quantity" column. The spreadsheet will automatically calculate the total power needed in row 29.

- There is also another row for "Other" to account for any POE devices not covered in the spreadsheet

The ESW 500 Q&A document states:

Q. Do the Cisco ESW 500 Series PoE switches support Cisco pre-standard PoE?

A. No. For Cisco pre-standard PoE, we recommend the Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series Switches, which support both 802.3af and Cisco pre-standard PoE.

However the calculator includes Cisco pre-standard PoE phones, such as the 7940, 7960, 7985 etc.

Can you clarify if these phones are supported on the ESW 500 series switches and if so are there any caveats to be aware of ?

  The Cisco pre standard POE IP Phones are supported on the ESW switches in terms of being powered up. However the method for applying pre standard POE is not what a Cisco Catalyst switch supports (in terms of CDP negotiation etc) hence the Q&A on the ESW.
