Smart Licensing URL

Hoping someone might be able to help clarify the proper URL for smart licensing registration on ISR 4K routers and 9200L switches.

I've seen different things on different documents.  For example, some documents make reference to "smartreceiver.cisco.com", some documents reference "tools.cisco.com".  Is there a common URL that can be used?  Does this vary any by products?  For example, I recently registered all of my expressway nodes using the "smartreceiver.cisco.com" URL but when using the same URL on my ISR 4K routers I'm seeing errors in the logs about unable to resolve hostname.  I feel like my DNS is properly configured so I don't think that error is because my DNS isn't properly configured.

We are running Amsterdam 17.03.05.

Hi @Richard Pidcock

It will vary according to transport type:

  • If CSSM is not reachable and the configured transport type is smart:

    1. Check if the smart URL is configured correctly. Use the show license status command in privileged EXEC mode, to check if the URL is exactly as follows: https://smartreceiver.cisco.com/licservice/license. If it is not, reconfigure the license smart url smart smar_URL command in global configuration mode.

  • If CSSM is not reachable and the configured transport type is callhome:

    1. Check if the URL is entered correctly. Use the show license status command in privileged EXEC mode, to check if the URL is exactly as follows: https://tools.cisco.com/its/service/oddce/services/DDCEService.

Flavio,

Thanks for clarifying the difference between URL's based upon the transport type.  That makes sense now.  Another problem I had was that I was trying to just perform "license smart sync all" but I hadn't established trust with CSSM by registering with the "license smart trust idtoken <token>" command.  I corrected the URL and did the registration and now things are looking good.  Thanks again.

@Flavio Miranda yes it has.  To steal a line from Kevin Wallace, there needs to be a CCLP certification (Cisco Certified Licensing Professional)....lol.
