Cisco SGE2010P Routing Question

I currently have a Cisco SGE2010P that I am using as my default gateway for everything on my network. I have a static route that points our VoIP traffic out a dedicated line, and that works great. I recently added in a second route that points to another router with a metric of 200. Now my hope was that if the main route with a metric of 1 was not the next route would kick in. In my testing this does not happen. Am I missing something? Now if I set the higher metric as the default route then the phones register and everything works fine. Any thoughts?

Hi Sean, when the packets match multiple static routes, the gateway will send the packet to the matching route with the lowest metric.

Thank you for that, so a bit different than what I do with some of my Cisco routers that have varying metrics for a few routes. So my option is really to change the metric and then this will work. Thanks for letting me know, I was hoping to make this a bit more automatic, but it will have to do for now I suppose. What if I went with a Catalyst switch?

Sean, additional routes and backup routes are pretty often within routing protocols. 3560 and 3750 support the CEF and route protocols. You may want to propose this question in the lan router/switch area.
