Having Trouble Setting Up Management VLAN

I have the following configured in the Web Interface of my SG200-26 (firmware version 1.4.1.3):

Port VLAN Membership

Administrative VLANs: 500UP

Operational VLANs: 500UP

Interface: GE13

Mode: General

Administrative VLANs: 500UP

Operational VLANs: 500UP

After configuring this much, I have no problem communicating with the switch. My computer is connected directly to port 13 of the switch.

I then try to set the Management VLAN as follows:

Administration

Management Interface

IPv4 Interface

Management VLAN: 500 (was previously 1)

As soon as I apply this, I lose connectivity to the switch. This gives me these questions:

  1. Why did I *not* lose connectivity to the switch when I moved the port I'm connected to (port 13) to VLAN 500 while the Management VLAN was 1?
  2. Why *did* I lose connectivity to the switch when I set the Management VLAN to 500, matching the VLAN of the port I am connected to (port 13)?
  3. What is the proper sequence of steps to follow when configuring a Management VLAN? I ask this because you cannot, on the same screen, simultaneously 1) set the Management VLAN and 2) move to the new Management VLAN the port to which you're connected.

Thanks,

Dave
