Internet Routing with SG300-20 and a domain controller

Hi

I am trying to set up the SG300-52 and am struggling, I have a domain controller with IP address 192.168.0.1

I have a broadband router that is has a dynamc ip address. I have set up vlan1 aand vlan2

Vlan1 is getting its ip address from the domain which is 192.168.0.110

vlan2 is getting its ip from the broadband router.

I have setup Domain Name System in the Ip configuration tab

on Vlan1 I have a connected a dumb switch this connects all the computers in the local network. What I cannot get to work is the internet vlan.

Can someone who has setup up vlan routing with domain controller please help me

First make sure you are running latest firmware on your SG300 switch. SW 1.1.1.8 code.

I take it that the broadband router does not support vlans; if this is correct then the SG300 switch will need to be placed in layer 3 mode. Basically your topology will look like a router on a stick configuration. You will need two separate subnets if you want to use two vlans’

Vlan 1 = 192.168.2.1

Broadband router = 192.168.2.254

Vlan 2 = 192.168.0.254

Domain controller = 192.168.0.1

You will need to add a default route within the SG300 switch

• •0.0.0.0    0.0.0.0 192.168.2.254
  

Add another static route in broadband router

192.168.0.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.2.1

All device within your domain controller (vlan 2) network will have a GW of vlan2 (192.168.0.254) after setup is complete you should have access to the Internet and routable between both subnet's.

Thansk you for taking the time to reply unfortunately I did not manage to get it working, I think the broadband router I have is rubbish and will probable have to invest in a router to complete this task.

Could you recommend what router I should get, will a layer 2 router that is vlan aware be good enough. or will i need to get a layer 3 router.

Yes you will need a router that is Vlan aware for simplest configuration. Just an FYI when you're talking about routing/router all router's operate at layer 3. Below are lists of our router that supports 802.1Q Vlans.

Thank you for the help so far

I bought a RV120W router which arrived today. its has numerous settings which I am not sure whether to change or not it is in DHCP server mode as a NAT gateway currently. It's ip address is 192.168.1.1

I assume I need to set to to router mode as I have added the default route in to the static route table

Here is the routing table from the RV120W after I plugged in the broadband router

Here is diagram of my network I have a lot more computers and servers which are connected to the unmanaged switch but did not think it was necessary to add them. To explain the diagram I have a broadband router connecting to a RV120W router this then connectes to Vlan3 on the switch, Vlan 2 is connected to the domain controller. What is confusing me is the additional of the new router between the broadband router and the switch. It looks like I ned to set up vlan routing on the router to route between the broadband router and the switch.
