MGBLX1 & Cisco SG300-28

I am trying to connect the 2 Cisco SG300-28 switch using the MGBLX1 module with a single mode fiber cable. When I inserted & removed the module it detected (see attached screenshot) but when I see the optical module it is not detected (see attached screenshot), the shared port of mini-gbic is not blinking. Is there are any compatibility issues with switch, module or single mode fiber? What is the minimum distance of single mode fiber optic cable? Do I need to configure the switch to enable the mini-gbic?

Hi Jolly, there shouldn't be an issue using this SFP. I'd recommend to break the fiber apart and pair a tx and tx together, place in to the SFP then connect it to the switch gbic port. This will create a loopback detect. This is a good way to test the switch port, the module and see if the fiber is any good.

I tried your suggestion but there is no light in the shared port. I will try a patch cable to test the module. How do I know if the module is defective?

Below are the logs.

Hello,

The Optical Status Table won't show anything unless there is a link up and running.  Since you are seeing the SFP insertion in the logs I'd say they are at least being recognized.

Can you try reversing the fiber link?  On one end just take the connector apart and reverse the strands.

Give that a try and let me know how it goes.
