I'm upgrading an SG300-28 from firmware 1.1.2.0 to the latest 1.4.10.06 but I get: Illegal software format
So I'm trying to upgrade to an interim version 1.4.1.03 but I get the same msg.
Here in the community, they suggest to use another interim version 1.3.7.18 but I do not find it to download.
Any help please?

Hi,
You need to carry out an interim firmware upgrade. It will found on the Software download of Cisco.
The same topic is covered in this post: https://community.cisco.com/t5/small-business-switches/sg300-firmware-upgrade-copy-illegal-software-format/td-p/2509897

Hi,
Here is the link: https://software.cisco.com/download/home/283019685/type/282463181/release/1.4.1.03
Download the ZIP file and extract the files. You will get both files in this zip.

Hi, from the downloaded zip I extract 2 files:
sx300_boot-13506.rfb
sx300_fw-1413.ros
Trying to install both of them I always get Copy: Illegal software format

You do have to install the 1.3.5 version first, but the trick is finding it.
You go to Cisco's firmware page, but even after clicking View ALL, you won't see any of the 1.3 versions. What you do is just enter 1.3.5 in the search box at the top of the list of firmware choices and miracles of miracles it comes up!! I'm not sure what made me think to enter it in the search box, since I was going around in circles trying to find it in the list. I figured if I clicked "view all" it would actually view all of them!! But you do have to manually enter it. I successfully upgraded to the latest firmware after updating the boot and then updating the firmware to 1.3.5. Then I was able to go all the way up to the latest. Hopefully this helps.

Hello Cohen,
You need to expand the "1" tree:
https://software.cisco.com/download/home/283019685/type/282463181/release/1.3.5.58
That is the true interim firmware
Hope it helps
Regards,
Mike
