I have 5 VLAN's setup in the sge2010. I have one port (uplink for the network) that I want everyone to see. But have separate VLAN's for different departments as to keep them all separate. Everytime i try and Untag that uplink port, i lose my untag in the original VLAN it was tagged in, and it changes to excluded.
Any ideas how to make this (my uplink port) stay untagged and accessable to all the VLAN's in question.
Thanks

Hi Vital, one vlan is untagged, all other vlans are tagged. The untagged vlan is the PVID (native vlan) for that port. If you try to make a second vlan untagged, that change will overwrite the first pvid since you may only have 1 native vlan or 1 PVID per port.
The correct set up would be to have the interconnections such as 1u,2t,3,4,5t on both sides.

When i try and add my uplink port to other VLAN's and add it 'tagged' i get error message "action is illegal in current port mode"
Thanks for your input so far!

This would suggest the port is configured as an access port, it would need to be a trunk port.

What mode do i set that in to make it a trunk port? I need 4 vlans to see this one uplink port while keeping the vlans separate, just having this uplink port in common.
I have all my wanted ports for each VLAN marked as untagged in the respective VLAN's. I just need all the VLAN's to see this one uplink port
Thanks.

The port mode is "trunk". There are a few options on the switch, Trunk, Access, General.
Under vlan management -> vlan to port you can click join vlan and choose the mode of the port. You will make one vlan as untagged then the other members tagged to the same port after you make it a trunk.
Your router will control how the vlans will work together, if they're allowed to communicate or not.

OK, great, I see all that. I don't understand where to make the port 'Trunk'

To make a port a trunk go to Bridging -> Vlan Management -> Interface Settings

Ok, so my uplink port is now marked as trunked.
It now shows up in VLAN 1 (default VLAN) as excluded. (Don't think that correct)
If my uplink port is marked trunked, anyone should be able to see a test pc plugged into that port, with just a shared drive (testing only), correct
In the other 3 VLAN's on the switch, i have marked the uplink port as tagged( is that correct?)
Noone plugged into the switch in any of the VLAN's can see the test PC plugged into my uplink port.
What am i doing wrong.
all the VLANs work properly, except the most important uplink port that noone can see

Tom,
Can I have more than one Trunked port and not open up all the VLAN's. Seems with 2 trunked ports all the VLAN's open up. I have one trunked port for one network and some of the VLAN's on the switch and another trunked port for another network tagged to another couple vlans???

Hi Vital, yes you may have multiple trunks using different vlans.

Tom
After I trunk my two ports for two separate networks none of the vlans can see the trunked ports. All VLAN's are functioning properly separating one from the other.
I have port 46 and 47 marked as trunked. then i tagged the ports in the vlans i want to see each trunk.
Am i missing something. The switch has an ip and subnet set in it as well.
Also can't seem to manage the switch from any port that is a member of a VLAN, why is that?

Hi Vtial, can you make a network drawing showing the devices and your goal?
You won't manage the switch from a different vlan unless the switch has a default gateway set and the routing device allows inter-vlan communication.
