Trunking SG200's with Catalyst 3500 or 2950

Has anyone here tried to  mix a Catalyst switch (say, a 3500 or 2950) with a Cisco SG200-26?

I've got 4 VLANs setup on a 3500: 1 (default), 10, 20, and 30 I've tried to connect a trunk port (GBIC) out of a 3500, into a SG200,  with the hopes of being able to assign ports to those particular VLANs  on the SG200. So far, I've only been able to work on the default VLAN 1  on the SG200.

The only options I can see, are that I can create VLAN's on the  SG200, and assign ports that way --- but that doesn't seem to be passing  the VLANs, just creating them fresh again -- I think

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this?

Recap:

Out of the 3500:

interface GigabitEthernet0/1

description Trunk_To_SG200

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

switchport mode trunk

Connected to the SPF port 26 on the SG200-26

Plugging into ports 1-24, I get a DHCP address from the default VLAN 1

Hi Andy, you could make a LLDP policy on the Catalyst to force the Sx200 smart ports to respond.

Andy,

Please upload a sanitized version of your configuration and I will take a look at it.
