100 meg fx gbic for gigabit ports - is cat 6509 gigabit sfp supported

I need to run 100 meg fx gbic from from cisco 2960 gigabit port to a cisco cat 6509 sfp gigabit card model WS-X6748-SFP

the gbic is the GLC-GE100FX

will this work?

WS-X6748-SFP is a Gig and the 2960 has Gig SFP port.  Why use 100 mb if you want to connect both???

i have a similiar issue, mine is due to the fiber length, using MM fiber and over 500 meters. will the 100 sfp work with this 6500 blade?  WS-x6748-sfp
